Gavin Purser (b.1936) served as President of the Board of General Purposes of the United Grand Lodge of England, the governing body of Freemasonry in England and Wales, from 1995 to 1999. The initials that follow his name in the title (PSGW) denote his additional role of Past Senior Grand Warden at the United Grand Lodge of England. This portrait was commissioned by them in 2003 to mark his time as president, and is one of a series of portraits of past presidents of the Board of General Purposes.
