This dashing young cavalry officer is Charles Sabine Thellusson. He was briefly a Captain in the 12th Royal Lancers, and later built Brodsworth Hall. Charles Thellusson was in the fashionable Lancers in the late 1840s. He married the wealthy Georgiana Theobald in 1850, and they had six children. In 1858 he was one of the two people who split the inheritance from Peter Thellusson’s famous will, which had been fought over in the courts for over half a century. Charles inherited the Brodsworth estate in Yorkshire. He demolished the Georgian house, and replaced it from 1861 to 1863 with a new country house, the present Brodsworth Hall, set in formal gardens. The house still has many of its original furnishings as well as later objects, and its interiors have been gently conserved.
