The parable of the mote and the beam is recorded in two gospels of the Bible (Matthew and Luke). It has rarely been painted: only three other depictions are known.
The artist was descended from the clan of Manuchariants, of Armenia, although his family later divided: some moved to Persia but Zorab's family went to India. He painted several icons in the Armenian churches of New Julfa (a suburb of Isfahan in Iran).
