Portrait painter and teacher who studied at Manchester College of Art and Design, 1965–6; Birmingham College of Art, 1966–7; and the Royal Academy Schools, 1969–72. He taught at the Working Men’s College. He exhibited at the RA Summer Exhibition from 1972. Other shows included John Player Portrait Award, National Portrait Gallery, 1981–3, and Lost People, St Paul’s Gallery, Leeds, and National Portrait Gallery, 1984. Included in its collection are Rose’s 1984 portrait of the athlete Sebastian Coe and composer Sir Michael Tippett, 1989. Sir Brinsley Ford owned Rose’s 1971 self-portrait.
