One of the ways Art UK is looking to the future is to think about automating the collection and processing of data, removing the onus from the collections.

In late 2019, we began work on a data harvesting pilot project.

The collections involved are:

  • The National Gallery
  • Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales
  • Science Museum Group
  • Norfolk Museums Service
  • National Galleries Scotland
  • Tate
  • Government Art Collection
  • The Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology

We hope that it will have implications for the way collections can handle and use their data going forward, and the initial results are very exciting. When the pilot comes to an end we will look at raising funds to roll out data harvesting in a much more comprehensive way.

This project has been funded by The National Gallery Trust.
