Alice Read,

This discussion has resulted in a new painting description:

'This work shows Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge, which still carries the railway over the River Tamar – linking Devon and Cornwall via Plymouth and Saltash – with the Tamar bridge behind. It was painted from The Quay, St Germans in 1965.'

Thank you to all for participating in this discussion. To those viewing this discussion for the first time, please see below for all comments that led to this conclusion.

Penelope Gay,

Yes, It's Brunel's Railway Bridge and the Tamar road bridge between Saltash and Plymouth.

Alice Read,

Thank you, I agree! Would the collection like to add this as a short painting description?

Richard Wench,

Looks like a representation of Forth rail bridge with Forth road bridge in the background

Richard Wench,

Sorry it is the Albert Tamar Rail bridge with the Tamar road bridge behind

Dave Evans,

Sorry folks, confused myself, that should read 'the view from the far end of the Down platform'.

Alice Read,

That didn't work either, sorry, I will contact the developers.

Alice Read,

I have news from the developers:

"If you copy and paste the link into a new browser then you get the correct result but if you click it, you don't.
This seems to be something related to Google and not something we would be able to fix.
But looking into this we found that you can shorten the link and copy paste that, which works:
https://goo.gl/maps/qrzgb.
To do this:
• Open the new Google Maps.
• Open a map you want to share. Example: a map of directions
• In the bottom right, click the gear.
• Select Share and embed the map.
• Check the box next to "Short URL" to create a shorter link."

Emma Farris,

i dont know about the first 1 but the 1 in the background look's like the golden gate bridge in san francisco california.

The work is , as you say, Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge, which still carries the railway over the River Tamar – linking Devon and Cornwall via Plymouth and Saltash - with the Tamar bridge behind. Lang records having painted it from 'The Quay, St Germans, 1965.' Yes, please add this to the short description. Many thanks.
