German painter, born in Neuenhain, who has lived and worked principally in Berlin. She was associated with the *Neo-Expressionist tendency of the 1980s and achieved great acclaim at the 1982 *documenta exhibition. She specializes in images of women who, as more than one commentator has noted, are remarkably like her, with a proclivity for big earrings and thick lipstick. ‘Women aren't like snakes, they are snakes’, she told an interviewer.
