Portrait painter and teacher, born in Greenock, Renfrewshire, married to the artist Margaret Boden, who assisted him in many of his major works. These included 19 royal portraits, including 10 of Queen Elizabeth plus several copies; other subjects as diverse as Pope Pius XII, three lord mayors of London, Field-Marshals Lords Milne and Slim, the singers Boris Christoff and Tito Gobbi, and actors Sir Donald Wolfit, Alistair Sim and Donald Sinden. After Sedbergh School Boden studied at Glasgow School Art, teachers including W O Hutchison, Francis Hodge, John D Revel and Frederic Whiting, and Heatherley’s School of Fine Art. As well as showing at RP of which he was a member, exhibited at RSA. Chelsea Arts Club member who lived in London.
