Painter, writer and poet, born in Ripon, Yorkshire. She studied at Harrogate School of Art and later with Jean-Georges Simon, a pupil of Bourdelle. She wrote a memoir of him and her illustrated book of poems Painter’s Poetry was published in 1986. Parisian influences were apparent in Bowett’s pictures, which while showing a strong command of natural form had a notable pattern element. Was a member of Midland Group, Industrial Painters’ Group, WIAC and other international bodies, also showing at RA, Paris Salon, LG, RP and RSA. Had many solo exhibitions from 1957 at Midland Group Gallery, Nottingham, later ones including The Pierrepont Gallery, Newark, 1991, and Cartwright Hall, Bradford, 1995. HRH The Duke of Edinburgh holds her work. Died Bassetlaw, Nottinghamshire.
