Artist, writer, critic and teacher, born in Melbourne, Australia, of Jewish parents. In 1901 he enrolled for drawing tuition at National Gallery of Victoria School of Art, then in 1904 moved to America, where in 1906 he joined the National Academy of Design, in 1908 moving to London. There he enrolled at City and Guilds Art School and had a first solo show. He became friendly with such artists as Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, Jacob Epstein, David Bomberg and Mark Gertler; his biography of Gaudier appeared in 1933. Brodzky’s theatrical design work was included in a show which toured the continent. In 1914 he joined the LG and began to be included in modern art shows, in New York, 1915–23, editing several magazines. Taught at London County Council evening classes from 1924–34.
