Painter, printmaker and teacher, born in London, who studied at Byam Shaw, 1968–70, with Maurice de Sausmarez and Bernard Dunstan, and at the Royal Academy Schools, 1972–5, with Peter Greenham. Browne went on to lecture and teach occasionally, running an art class locally for 10 years, having settled in Askrigg, north Yorkshire. He showed with Askrigg Artists every year and by 2003 had had 50 solo exhibitions over the previous 25 years. He worked in traditional romantic landscape mode, latterly influenced by Scottish landscape painters. Books illustrated by Browne included A E Housman’s A Shropshire Lad, 1988; William Wordsworth, A Lakeland Anthology, 1991; and The Glorious Trees of Great Britain, foreword by HRH The Prince of Wales, with an accompanying show at North Light Gallery, Huddersfield, 2002.
