Painter and teacher, born at Ford Green, Staffordshire. After private education he attended Hanley School of Art, then the Royal College of Art, 1903–8, under Gerald Moira. Taught at St Martin’s School of Art, 1929–49, and Hornsey School of Art, 1930–49. Married to the artist Helen Mackenzie. Exhibited RA, NEAC, RP, ROI and Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. Imperial War Museum and galleries in Bradford and Oldham possess his work. Lived in London.
