Painter, sculptor, designer and teacher, born in Bradford. He studied at Leeds and Edinburgh Colleges of Art, being awarded a postgraduate period of study and a Major Travelling Scholarship. From 1956 he was on the staff of Edinburgh College of Art. In 1978 he was artist-in-residence in Orkney. For almost 20 years from 1958 Busby was actively involved in the 57 Gallery in Edinburgh. Busby was a founder-member of the SWLA with a special interest in birds. Ornithology took him on trips to Jordan and the Indian Ocean and he visited Shetland to illustrate Hugh Miles’ book Track of the Wild Otter. He was the author of The Living Birds of Eric Ennion and Birds in Mallorca. Busby designed a big tapestry for Edinburgh Tapestry Company and made carvings for St Martin’s Church, Bradford.
