Painter, sculptor and kinetic artist working in a variety of materials, born in Pontypridd, Glamorgan. After an elementary education Byrd did a variety of jobs, ranging from photographer to aircraft fitter, becoming a full-time artist in 1950. From the early 1950s he participated in a wide range of group shows, including WAC, Compendium Gallery in Birmingham and Howard Roberts and Arlington Galleries, Cardiff. In the early 1970s he participated in Kinetic Art, in Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea, and in Edinburgh; and Wales and the Modern Movements, at University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. One-man shows included Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff. Glamorgan, Merthyr and Gwent Education Authorities hold his work.
