Painter, decorator and artist in black-and-white, writer and muralist. Born in London, the daughter of the painter Louisa Starr, Canziani studied at Arthur Cope and Erskine Nicol’s School, in London, and the Royal Academy Schools early in the century. Exhibited prolifically and widely, including RA, Walker’s Galleries especially, SWA, RMS, RI, RBA and on the continent; held a number of one-man shows. A multi-talented woman, she did medical illustration during World War I; collected peasant dress and handicrafts and wrote about them in such books as Costumes, Traditions and Songs of Savoy, 1911, and Through the Appenines and the Lands of the Abruzzi, 1928; was a member of the National Art Collections Fund and a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society; and wrote about the house where she was born and continued to live in Round about Three Palace Green, 1939.
