Painter, especially of murals, sculptor, writer and flamboyant character, the nephew of Sir Winston Churchill. He was the son of Major John Churchill, grandson of Lord Randolph Churchill. He was educated at Harrow School and Oxford University where he was a distinguished gymnast. After briefly working on the Stock Exchange he studied at Royal College of Art, Central School of Arts and Crafts, Westminster School of Art and Ruskin School of Drawing. He also received private tuition from several artists including Bernard Meninsky and William Nicholson. His first commission was a mural for Lady Islington, followed by one to decorate the Renaissance palace in India of the Maharanee of Cooch Behar. Many others followed, for or featuring Spencer Churchill’s society friends.
