Painter, designer and teacher, born in Colchester, Essex, who continued to work in that area. He was married to the artist Joyce Pallot. Collins studied at Colchester School of Art and the Central School of Arts and Crafts. After World War II service with the Army he worked as a freelance designer, establishing himself through commissions for Central Office of Information at the 1951 Festival of Britain. He taught for many years in the graphic design department of St Martin’s School of Art, at Colchester School of Art and in adult education classes. With his wife he worked on many exhibition designs and murals, including Shell Centre, General Post Office Tower and Grosvenor House; Essex County Council; and Jamestown Festival in America. The two artists shared a retrospective show at The Minories, Colchester, 1984 and 1995, and in 1995–6 Essex County Libraries toured a Collins memorial show.
