Figurative painter and teacher, born in Bristol, who studied at St Martin’s School of Art, 1980–5, and Royal College of Art, 1988–90. Went on to be associate lecturer at University of Northumbria, in Newcastle upon Tyne. Mixed shows included Whitechapel Open from 1992; Base/Salama–Caro Gallery, 1994; John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1995–6, Die Young Stay Pretty, ICA, 1998–9; and Days Like These, Tate Britain, 2003. Solo shows included Paton Gallery, 1987; Smith Jariwala Gallery, 1992; Galerie Unwahr, Berlin, 1995; and Gagosian Gallery, New York, 2000 and 2004. Arts Council holds his oil The Room, 1984–5. A strong feature of Dalwood’s output was paintings of interiors unknown to him. After initial sketches, he used collages of objects, colours and materials from magazines.
