Frances Taplin Darlington [also known as Frances Darlington; and as Fanny Darlington] was born in Headingley, Leeds, England on 3 February 1880 and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art University College London, and at the South Kensington Schools in London. She subsequently worked as a sculptor and medallist and exhibited at the Royal Academy, New Gallery, and Society of Women Artists in London; Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool; Leeds City Art Gallery; the Paris Salon, and in New Zealand and the USA Her public commissions included a statue of Joseph Priestley in Birstall, West Yorkshire; a 21-metre frieze for the foyer of the Opera House, Harrogate; and a war memorial plaque for St George's House Police Orphanage in Harrogate. She also executed a relief of the Stations of the Cross situated in St Wilfrid's Church, Harrogate.
