Watercolourist, etcher and teacher, born in Newport, Monmouthshire. In late 1920s he entered an engineering course at Newport Technical College, but later moved to Art School. From there he gained a place at Royal College of Art in the engraving school, 1931. In 1933 he gained his diploma and the British Institution Scholarship and was runner-up in Prix de Rome Scholarship, 1935, when he joined staff of Cheltenham School of Art. Served in Army, 1942–4, and resumed teaching at Cheltenham when invalided out, becoming principal in 1950 until 1974. Was appointed RE, RWS and RWA, also showing at RA, RSA, NEAC, RBA, Art Institute of Chicago and elsewhere. A memorial exhibition of his etchings was held at Cheltenham Art Gallery in 1991. It, Newport Art Gallery and Museum, RWS, RWA and National Library Wales, Aberystwyth, hold his work.
