Artist employing a variety of media, including film and performance, who was born in America. Studied at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen, 1975–80. Downie made a number of residencies, including Scottish Arts Council residency in Amsterdam and at Total’s North Alwyn oilfield in the North Sea. Solo shows included Amsterdam and Denmark and one at Collins Gallery, Glasgow, in 1990 after a year’s residency in Paris. She showed frenetic images evoking the speed and bustle of the city. Downie’s work was in Through Women’s Eyes, at City Art Centre, Edinburgh, 1992–3. Is represented in collections throughout Europe and America.
