Draughtsman and painter who qualified as a dental surgeon in 1959, but 10 years later reduced his surgery hours to concentrate on painting. Took part in numerous mixed exhibitions, including Ashbarn Gallery, Petersfield; Aberystwyth University; Cleveland Bridge Gallery, Bath; Newlyn Orion Gallery, Newlyn; and Gordon Hepworth Gallery, Newton St Cyres. When The Group of Twelve was formed in 1992, Dyson was elected president. Solo exhibitions included Falmouth Art Gallery, Falmouth, 2001. In 1996 the book 36 Drawings by Julian Dyson was published. Although he worked in many parts of the country Dyson, a self-taught artist born in Cornwall, returned there in the early 1980s, its landscape being a key element in his work. Lived at St Mawes. There was a retrospective at Archeus Fine Art, 2004–5.
