Artist in various media, teacher, born in St Helens, Lancashire. He attended Liverpool College of Art, 1948–51, at École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, 1951–2, and at Royal Academy in Copenhagen, 1954. A landscape painter in a rich palette, Eden claimed as his chief influences Cézanne and the School of Paris; Spain, the Lake District and Scotland were favoured subjects. Eden showed in France and Denmark in the 1950s. In Britain showed at Redfern Gallery and in many group shows in the northwest. Had a solo show at Acorn Gallery in Liverpool, 1985; Atkinson Art Gallery, Southport, 1988; and with his son John Eden at Orsini Gallery, 1991. There was a retrospective at the University of Liverpool Art Gallery in 2005 which included hard-edge abstracts, a series inspired by the BBC television series Come Dancing and Spanish landscapes.
