Painter and teacher, born in London, where he continued to live. He was educated at Canford School, Dorset, then studied fine art for a term at Reading University in 1941, serving in the Army, 1942–7, painting occasionally. From 1947–50 studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, in 1951–2 gaining an Abbey Major Scholarship to work in Italy. Began to show with LG and RA and in 1955 had first one-man exhibition at St George’s Gallery. From 1957 Eyton taught at Camberwell School of Art, other teaching following at Royal Academy Schools from 1965 and in 1969 at St Lawrence College, Kingston, Ontario. Among other notable events in Eyton’s career were winning a prize at John Moores Exhibition, Liverpool, in 1972; travels in Italy and India in the 1970s; membership of LG, RWA, RWS and NEAC and election to RA in 1987.
