Painter, printmaker, and teacher. He studied at Slade School of Fine Art in 1920s, then after three years went to teach art at The Downs, a Quaker preparatory school at Colwall, near Great Malvern, where he remained until after World War II. He inspired several dozen notable painters by his direct, open-air teaching methods, including Kenneth Rowntree, Lawrence Gowing, Patrick George and Francis Hoyland. After World War II Feild taught for a time at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and he was invited by William Coldstream to teach at the Slade. Feild was a keen painter of landscape who showed at Cooling’s and Walker’s Galleries and latterly at Austin/Desmond Fine Art. In 1970 Coldstream organised a Grosvenor Gallery retrospective.
