She studied at Chelsea School of Art, 1920–3, with John Revel; at Royal College of Art, teachers including William Rothenstein, 1923–6, teaching there, 1926–7; and at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art. Golden worked for magazines and produced book illustrations, often having to work to tight deadlines and research historical detail meticulously. Her own book Old Bankside, 1951, was so detailed that she was invited by Sam Wanamaker, planning to rebuild Shakespeare’s Globe Playhouse, to be official archivist to the project. Golden also did posters for the General Post Office; worked for the Ministry of Information; and drew historic buildings for the Pilgrim Trust.
