Versatile artist and teacher, born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, America, who graduated in fine art from Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, in 1981, gaining her master’s at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, 1984 (she had taken part in the Young Artists Studios Program there, 1975–8). After initial teaching at the Art Institute and at Columbia College, also in Chicago, Golden moved to Britain in 1989, settling in London. Following teaching at Southwark College, Kingston University, The Architectural Association, Slade School of Fine Art and Leeds University, she held senior lectureships at both Wimbledon School of Art and University of Reading, 1997–01, from 2001 becoming postgraduate research co-ordinator at Reading. Held many visiting-artist posts in Britain and America and won extensive awards and commissions, including latterly an Abbey Award in Painting, The British School at Rome, 1994; British Council Travel Grant, 1995; and Research Awards, Wimbledon School of Art, 1998 and 2000.
