Draughtsman, painter and teacher, born in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. He studied at Harrow School of Art, 1943, with Ernest Heber Thompson; Camberwell School of Art, 1946–7, teachers including William Coldstream, Claude Rogers, Laurence Gowing and Victor Pasmore; and Slade School of Fine Art, 1947–50. Gribble then began a series of teaching posts, latterly being art advisor to Somerset Council Council Education Department, 1972–80, then principal of Maidstone College of Art, 1980–4. Showed at MAFA from 1956, with Lincolnshire Artists at Usher Gallery in Lincoln from 1961, RWA from 1970 and elsewhere. Had a solo show at Phillips Gallery, Middlesbrough, 1955, later ones including Taunton Brewhouse Theatre, 1977. Manchester City Art Gallery, Usher Gallery and galleries in Middlesbrough, Salford and Ilminster hold examples.
