Sculptor, one of the foremost experimental casters in the United Kingdom, whose work concentrated on major global concerns such as the effects of war and pollution. His output was influenced by his own experience of conflict in places such as Northern Ireland and his work for Intermediate Technology in the Third World. Hurst was educated at Ruskin School of Drawing, Goldsmiths’ College School of Art and the sculpture foundry at Royal College of Art. He was one of five artists in a show at Pilgrim Gallery, 2003. One- and two-man exhibitions included Taliesin Gallery, University of Swansea, 1980; Library Gallery, Brunel University, 1984; Arts Council, Belfast, 1985; The Official Version, Christchurch Picture Gallery, Oxford, 1993; Taliesin Gallery (with George Little, 1999); and two more shows with Little: Beldam Gallery, Brunel University, 2000, and Christchurch Picture Gallery, 2001.
