Painter and teacher, born in Poole, Dorset. Joyce studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design, 1980–2, then Stourbridge College of Art, 1982–5. He lectured at both. Was involved in film-making involving several notable artists, including Gillian Ayres, Elisabeth Frink and Henry Mundy, and was himself the subject of a film by Grove Films. Joyce was notable for his coastal paintings tending towards abstraction, rather in the manner of St Ives artists, with black, grey and white much in evidence. Showed from 1987 with RWA, also at Poole Art Centre and Anthony Hepworth Fine Art, Bath, where he had a solo show in 1992. Lived in Wimborne, Dorset.
