Artist, photographer, teacher and collector of contemporary art, born in Darmstadt, Germany. She went to live and work in Paris, 1929; in 1931 married Hans Juda, financial editor of Berliner Tageblatt, and moved to Berlin; in 1933 settled in London and studied photography with Lucia Moholy, of the Bauhaus, and became a fashion photographer, working as Jay. As associate editor and photographer for Ambassador Magazine, founded by Hans Juda, she travelled the world. In 1963 set up a design studio to teach industry practice to graduates. Her private work included paintings, murals and witty collages, a large show of which was given at England & Co, 1994, touring to Germany. The Fine Art Society held Homage to Elsbeth Juda: Photographs and collages in 2003.
