Painter with a rich sense of colour, born in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Apart from a brief period with Leonard Fuller at St Ives School of Painting he was mainly self-taught. Macara first showed at Derby Museum and Art Gallery in 1976, at RA Summer Exhibition from 1977 and was a member of RBA and NEAC. He was included in Royal Academy Exhibitors at Fosse Gallery, Stow-on-the-Wold, 1987. Had a first solo show at Upstairs Gallery, RA, 1985, later ones including The Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, Eton, 2001, and New Academy Gallery, 2003. That reflected his wide travels, including south India, the Greek island of Santorini, southern France, the Costa Brava in Spain and Derbyshire. Lived in Derby.
