Painter in an Expressionist/ Impressionist style, sculptor and teacher, born in London, who moved with his family to Nottingham in 1914 where in 1923, aged 12, he was the youngest boy to win a scholarship to the School of Art. In 1925 he left school, worked as a clerk, then in 1927 went to Canada to be a missionary; did a variety of jobs; began painting again; and after travelling through America in 1933–4 settled in London. He was in 1935 sponsored to attend the Royal Academy Schools for several years, then for a while in Paris. Served in the Army in World War II, then from 1947–9 taught at Central School of Arts and Crafts, in 1950 teaching at Kingsway Day College and Sir John Cass College. Mann took part in mixed shows at Wildenstein, Park Row Gallery, East End Academy and Archer Gallery.
