Artist and teacher, born in Kent. He attended Exeter College of Art in 1955, from 1965 lecturing there. In 1980 he was included in The British Art Show, a touring exhibition chosen by the critic William Packer and put on by the Arts Council, which holds Mayer’s work. The 1980 show included Telegraph, of 1978, and The Aura of Joseph “Cornbread Thomas”, abstracts constructed of small lines and patterns, oil on canvas. Solo shows included Gimpel Fils, 1978.
