Landscape painter, born in Manchester, where he attended the Art School, then St Martin’s School of Art, 1962–7, teachers including Leon Kossoff and Frederick Gore. McCombs was a member of ROI, RBA and MAFA, also showing at Tib Lane and Portland Galleries in Manchester, Chenil and Mall Galleries and at several public galleries in the north, where he lived at Delph, Oldham, Lancashire. There were changing exhibitions of his work at the John McCombs Gallery, for example Paintings of Delph, 2002. Salford Art Gallery and Manchester City Art Gallery hold examples.
