Draughtsman, painter and printmaker who studied at Edinburgh College of Art, 1970–74, then did a postgraduate certificate, art and drama, at Bretton Hall College (Leeds University), 1975–6. Among awards were an Andrew Grant Award, 1974–5; Daniela Jesson Fine Art Prize for Landscape Study, Artists in Essex, 1990; and Most Promising Artist’s Award, Eastern Open, 1991. Metson said that “the content and subject matter of my works are particularly the natural energies of the planet relevant to ecological issues.” Group exhibitions included Scottish Young Contemporaries, Edinburgh, 1973–4; and Printmakers’ Workshop there, 1975; Usher Gallery, Lincoln, 1984; RA Summer Exhibition, 1991; and International Print Exhibition, Yokohama, Japan, 1995.
