Artist, musician and teacher who, after a grammar school education on Tyneside, attended Dartmouth Royal Naval College and then studied electrical engineering at St Andrews University. Moyes worked as a BBC recording engineer from 1959; studied at Chelsea School of Art, 1962–6; and by the early 1970s was teaching at Bath Academy of Art, Corsham. Group exhibitions included Axiom Gallery, 1967; Critic’s Choice, Tooth, 1970; Matrix, at Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol, 1971; and Systems, Arts Council, Whitechapel Art Gallery and tour, 1972–3, for which Moyes wrote at length about his contribution, A vibration tent, involving both sound and light. Moyes’ interest in music – such as Indian ragas, “a type of system in themselves” – now took over.
