Painter and teacher, born in Caerphilly, Glamorganshire, who attended Cardiff Art College, 1972–6. Was lecturer in fine art at South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education, Cardiff, 1979–82; lectured at Limerick School of Art in Ireland, 1983–4; had a residency at Kunststiftung, Stuttgart, West Germany, 1984; and, based in Cardiff, taught in a range of other art schools. Nicol was elected a member of 56 Group Wales in 1984. Group exhibitions included Prints for Proclamation, Cardiff, 1977; Paint, Presence, Other Stories, Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, 1983; Arts Council British Art Show with tour, 1984; and Mid-Wales Open (second prize), 1989. Had a solo show at Spacex Gallery, Exeter, 1985, later ones including Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea, 1995, and Mission Gallery, Swansea, 2002.
