Artist mainly in watercolour latterly, but also a printmaker, draughtsman, painter in oil and cut-card relief, and teacher, born in Cudworth, Yorkshire. He studied at Royal College of Art, 1937–40, teachers including Malcolm Osborne and Robert Austin. Platt gained a Silver Medal, travelling scholarship and continuation scholarship (engraving school). After war service, 1940–6, Platt entered teaching, retiring in 1980, positions including vice-principal of Doncaster College of Art. He was an honorary member of Doncaster Art Club, also showing with RA, Arts Council, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery and elsewhere in the provinces. Had several solo shows. Lived in Bessacarr, Doncaster, Yorkshire, where the public gallery holds his work.
