Artist and teacher, born in Solihull, Warwickshire. He studied at Moseley School of Art in Birmingham, 1949–52, then the College of Art and Design, 1952–7. Prentice was co-founder and director of the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, 1965–71. From 1971–82 he was senior lecturer in charge of the experimental workshop at City of Birmingham Polytechnic, taking over the honours degree course direction, 1982–6. He was visiting artist for various times at Trent Polytechnic, Ruskin School of Drawing in Oxford and Birmingham Institute of Art and Design and was artist-in-residence at Nottingham University, 1986–7. Had a long series of solo shows including RBSA from 1961, Ikon Gallery from 1965 and latterly Cowleigh Gallery, Malvern, from 1990, Nevill Gallery in Canterbury, 1991, and Art First, 1997.
