Painter and teacher, born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. He attended Reading University Fine Art Department, 1965–9, then Slade School of Fine Art, 1969–71. From 1971–83 he worked at the Serpentine Gallery, then did part-time lecturing in drawing at Croydon College. Appeared at John Moores Liverpool Exhibition, 1974; Tolly Cobbold/Eastern Arts National Touring Exhibition from 1977; Whitechapel Open from 1982, and in many other group shows. Among these were RA Summer Exhibition, from 1990; and Cadogan Contemporary, 1995; Duncan Terrace Gallery, 1999; and Office Exhibition, Options Group, 2001. He was elected to the LG in 2000. Redfern’s paintings were used in politically oriented programmes on British and German television. Had a solo exhibition at Guildhall, Thetford, 1980, later ones including Woodlands Art Gallery, 1986.
