Ian Robertson, painter and printmaker, was born in Aberdeen and studied at the R.G.I.T. Gray’s School of Art, where he was awarded a Hospitalfield Scholarship in 1978, and then at Aberdeen College of Education, where he graduated with a Post-Graduate Certificate of Secondary Education in Art in 1981. In 2005 he was awarded a Foundation Certificate in Art Therapy from Queen Margaret University Edinburgh. The winner of numerous prizes including the RSA Carnegie and Guthrie Prizes, his artworks are represented in Aberdeen Art Gallery, various hospital arts trusts as well as private collections. His interest in the cultures of places he has visited is reflected in a artistic language that he has developed combining abstract patterning and a personal narrative.
