Portrait painter and teacher (née Ruth Alison) who moved to Newlyn to study at Stanhope Forbes’ school shortly before marrying the artist Charles Simpson in 1913. During World War I they went to live in St Ives, where they ran a painting school, moved to London for seven years in 1924, returned to Lamorna in 1931 and finally lived at Alverton, Penzance, Cornwall. Exhibited at SWA, IS and elsewhere, but latterly did not paint due to illness. She was represented in Painting in Newlyn 1880–1930 at Barbican Art Gallery, 1985.
