Sculptor and draughtsman, born in Dunedin, New Zealand, whose works were about creation, change and development, employing stone, wood and metal. While growing up, Maori relief carvings impressed him, their influence being seen in the lines of his wall-mounted reliefs. He also produced fluid, often colourful drawings which revealed the thinking behind the sculptures. Exhibitions included Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg, West Germany, 1980; British Sculptors’ Drawings, Huddersfield, Portsmouth and Besançon, France, 1986; Plain English and Peeled Landscapes, Aspex Gallery, Portsmouth, 1991; Indivisible, Southampton City Art Gallery and Valencia, Spain, 1993; British and French Sculpture, Jersey Festival, 1996; and Eye to I, Les Brasseurs Gallery, Liége, Belgium, 1998.
