Painter, creator of environments and teacher, born in London, who attended Hornsey and Royal Colleges of Art. For several years from the mid-1960s he lectured at Cardiff College of Art after a period at Leicester College of Art and early in the 1970s was at Ohio State University, in America. In the late 1960s he was invited to Germany to create environments. A member of the 56 Group, Toynton showed at Grabowski Gallery’s 1962 show Image in Progress and later at Zwemmer Gallery, Galleria Milano in Milan, ICA and WAC.
