Sculptor and installations artist who employed a variety of materials such as steel, photographs and painted wood. He was born in St Austell, Cornwall, and studied at Falmouth Art School, 1962–3, Birmingham College of Arts and Crafts, 1963–6, and Royal College of Art, 1966–9. He created sculpture installations and from the early 1970s travelled widely, making wall-based artworks related to places visited. Had a show at Grabowski Gallery, 1970; a book-related exhibition at Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 1979; and at John Hansard Gallery, University of Southampton, 1981. The year following he was included in Whitechapel Art Gallery’s British Sculpture in the Twentieth Century. In 1992 Tremlett was shortlisted for the Turner Prize at the Tate Gallery.
