Artist who was born in County Durham. He studied at Sunderland College of Art, then gained his diploma at Royal Academy Schools in 1962. Among Trowell’s awards was the Landseer Silver Medal for Painting; he also gained the Sir James Knott Travelling Scholarship by the Royal College of Art and painted in Spain and North Africa. Trowell became a member of NEAC in 1986. His mixed exhibitions included New Bauhaus, Cologne; RA; RBA; and in 1993 The Continuing Tradition at Chappel Galleries, Chappel. Solo shows included Brod Gallery, Culham College in Oxford, and appearances in New York and Australia. Osborne Studio Gallery showed Trowell’s racing, equestrian and other paintings in 2001, giving him another exhibition in 2004. Royal College of Art, HRH The Prince of Wales, the University of East Anglia, Imperial College and a number of corporate collections hold examples.
