Painter and teacher, born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, sister of the artist Nicholas Volley. She studied at Slade School of Fine Art, 1972–7, where she was influenced by the work of Sir William Coldstream, Patrick George and Euan Uglow. Won a number of awards including the Boise Travelling Scholarship, which she took in Italy. In 1980 she began teaching part-time at Wimbledon School of Art, in 1986 at the Slade, where she directed the summer school. Volley had a solo show at Slade Gallery, University College, in 1990, another at Gallery Duncan Terrace in 2001. Took part in many mixed exhibitions, including Industrial Sponsors, at Gainsborough House, in 1977; British Drawing, at Hayward Gallery, 1982; A Reputation Among Artists, a Norwich School of Art Gallery touring show, in 1986–7; and The Prose of Painting, at Austin/Desmond Fine Art, 1991.
