Imaginative artist in various media, and teacher, born in Scotland. Her video pieces, photographic prints and objects, according to her dealer Houldsworth, which put on the solo show Somewhere Special in 2001, “are the result of her ceaseless pursuit of an ideal, isolated sanctuary.” For the occasion, Houldsworth explained that Walker “designs, builds and inhabits self-contained nirvanas, intended exclusively for the enjoyment of imaginatively idle activities – sunning on a deserted island, walking amongst clouds or floating down a river.” Prior to that, she had “spent most of the past few years away from home, reliant only upon what can be packed and carried away”. She graduated with an honours degree in tapestry and drawing from Edinburgh College of Art, 1987–91; did a sculpture course at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, 1992–3, on a Postgraduate Scholarship, Polish government and British Council; and gained her master’s in fine art from Goldsmiths’ College, 1994–6.
