Painter of meticulously crafted pictures born in Dublin, Ireland, who studied there at the National College of Art and Design. After graduating in 1993 with a degree in history of art and fine art, Walton read for his master’s in art history and theory at the University of Essex, gaining a distinction for his dissertation. Walton then went to Florence, Italy, studying painting and Old Master techniques under Charles Cecil, returning to Dublin in 1996. Walton won several awards, including the Taylor Prize, 1993; Don Niccola d’Ardia Caracciolo RHA Medal and Keating McLoughlin Medal, both in 1997; and third prize, ‘Lorenzo Il Magnifico’, at the Florence Biennale in 1999. He was included in The Irish Show at The Wykeham Gallery, Stockbridge, in 2005.
